Chapter Business

Marc Pinotti opened the meeting with Chapter Business which included:

  • International Conference on Cloud Security Management (ICCSM).  The Seattle Chapter is sponsoring a 1 day industry track on October 17th. The conference brings together academic and industry leaders to discuss current issues and research in cloud security.  See our Upcoming Events page for more information and to register.
  • Society of Information Risk Analysts conference SIRACon 2013 on October 21st and 22nd.  See for more information.
  • Our next luncheon meeting is in November at the Secure World conference at Meydenbaur Center.  Mark Russinovich will be the featured speaker.  Look for announcements and registration on our Upcoming Events page.
  • Interface Conference on December 5th at the Washington State Convention Center.  Admission is free to CSA Seattle Chapter Members and qualifies for 6 CPE credits.  See for more information.
  • CSA Seattle Chapter released the 2013 Cloud Adoption report.  The survey from 2012 identified obstacles to moving to the Cloud and measures Cloud adoption rates.  View the report at Cloud Security Survey Fall 2013.

Meeting Presentations

Dr.  Prasad Saripalli, Chief Technology Officer & Executive Vice President at OneOcean presented  Visual Summarization and Meta-analytic Approaches to Harden Security of Big Data Analytic Workloads on Cloud”  Dr. Prasad discussed the relationship between the Cloud and Big Data and the primary drivers, Market and Academic research, that influence the questions and answers that Big Data analytics provides.  He used QUIRC to demonstrate how some of the essential security concerns around BDA Cloud workloads (especially Tampering, Information Disclosure, Denial of Service and Elevation of Privilege from Microsoft’s STRIDE) may be effectively addressed using metadata and visual summarization based approaches.

Ed Kimm,  Partner & Director of Business Acquisitions and Marketing at Wowrack presented  “A Wholistic View Of Cloud Security, Government Affects, How It Relates To You”.  Mr. Kimm discussed the CSP need for greater government transparency in data collected to reassure customers on privacy concerns and the need for standardization in security and encryption standards to increase Cloud adoption.
