Angus Drummond, Microsoft BCDR Architect, provided an excellent presentation:

“Microsoft’s Disaster Recovery Program and How the Cloud Changes It”
The presentation details how Microsoft IT built out its on-premise Disaster Recovery program and how this is changing as they move the applications to the Cloud.

About the Speaker:
As a Principal Service Engineer in the Enterprise Business Continuity Management team, Angus Drummond is responsible for the planning and running of the Disaster Recovery (DR) program within Microsoft IT.  This involves ensuring Microsoft’s critical processes and the applications supporting them have geographic redundancy to protect against a regional disaster.

Before Angus joined Microsoft, he spent 18 years as the director of IT for Asia for Berlitz, an international translation and language school company based in Princeton. He joined Microsoft in 1996 as a database administrator in Japan and later became the manager of the Tokyo data center. In 1999, he moved to Redmond where he managed the Microsoft Corporate data centers, server provisioning team, backup team, and SAN support team before he became part of the group assigned to design and build the storage utility team. Angus holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and economics from Saint Andrews University in Scotland and holds several other computer certifications. He also speaks fluent Japanese.
